A collection of sounds to supplement reading of The Sound of Things to Come.

PLAYLISTS

The Spotify playlists here feature several albums or collections of film soundtrack material discussed in The Sound of Things to Come, though these playlists are by no means exhaustive. Numerous films considered in the book have yet to see an official soundtrack release (for instance, the Soviet films of the late-50s and early-60s) or aren't licensed for use on this platform. Moreover, the book tends to emphasize the sonic experience of the film as a whole, in which musical scores combine with or compete against other sonic elements, such as the sound effects and the design of ambient soundscapes. Seeking out the films will of course yield the more preferred listening experience. All the same, having a solid collection of audible materials in album format may be of interest to some readers wanting a soundtrack for the book or for close listening. What follows, then, are three playlists featuring the (available) soundtrack albums of films discussed in The Sound of Things to Come: An Audible History of the Science Fiction Film.
